Whats your thoughts on X-mas? Is it right? is it wrong? I have been taught by my p's that its wrong. In one church they said it was alright.
P's said that it takes christ out of christmas.
church said that the x was a cross.
Whats your thoughts

i think it's a minor issue christians should NOT get up in arms about.
i think the "X" = "a cross" arguement is weak sauce.
this one is better:
in greek, christ is spelled [transliterated] "christos" and the letter to represent the sound "chi" closely resembles our english letter "X". in early church history, the symbol "chi"/"X" was used as a way to denote a "christ"-one. so when it is written X-Mas, it really has a representative value for the word CHRIST.
furthermore, since when did the letter "X" get such a bad rep as a negative "crossing out" letter?! poor guy... think about how all the other letters must tease him so...
i write XMAS.
i also write CHRISTmas.
[on a separate argument, we could talk about how what we refer to christmas today has nothing to do historically with the birth of jesus, thus jesus was never IN "christmas" as we know it, to be removed from it... but that's a different topic altogether!]
here's my personal bottom line:
it doesn't matter what you call it/how you write it. if your parents want you to do it one way and not the other, then do it that way. it's such a small trivial issue that it's not worth a darn thing to bring division and disunity over... especially in a household!
surrendering to the LORDship of Jesus in daily life, repenting of sin, and loving our neighbor is where the focus should be.
how can we bless those around us during this XMAS/CHRISTMAS season, AS WE SHOULD BE DOING ALL YEAR-LONG?!
these are my $0.02 for what they are worth, please feel free to disagree and be wrong!
hehehehe...
I write it both ways. I also agree that X = cross is weak, but it shows some wisdom I think and heres why:
I to believe that it is just a small thing. But many people don't think its a small thing. Most people who go to church who are over the age of 30 freak out like there is no tomorrow. So maybe this guy was showing that x-mas isn't so bad after all. Trying to change the world, if these kids all went home and started using x-mas and told their p's that the x stood for a cross, maybe the parents would change. (which I don't believe is right but I will save that for latter)
i don't think it matters at all.
i prefer christmas to X-mas, though. i think christmas is more open about who we are supposed to be celebrating during the holiday. plus, i think "X-mas" sounds cold and unfeeling. it reminds me of an empty warehouse.
"i'm dreaming of a white X-mas." it just doesn't have the same feel.
maybe you all should learn and perform this song.
"Christmas with a capital C"
it's sooo culturally relevant and moving to me.
[/sarcasm]
i thought you guys would get a kick out of it...
I don't think it matters either
(guess I'm a little late)
